Prospective student questions [06 Feb 2011|01:08pm]

[ mood | curious ]

Hello. I applied to ISU late last month. I visited the campus and found it to be nice, but I didn't really get answers to this question so I think I'll pose it here.

Does anyone else here commute to campus from outside Bloomington/Normal? I currently live in Champaign-Urbana (and before you ask, I can't go to UIUC, they don't have the program I'm interested in) and would be making the commute to campus hopefully not every day but a couple days a week. I'm a transfer student from Parkland who tried to go to Franklin University online but couldn't handle an online-only course system. I am just wondering if others have dealt with this and what are your experiences?

Also how long does it take for them to process your application? According to the website I applied on they have received it but not processed it. The waiting is killing me!

Free Amazon Prime for students [09 Aug 2010|04:21am]

Amazon is currently giving free 1 year memberships to Amazon Prime (free 2 day shipping, $3.99 overnight shipping) to current students with a .edu email address: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info I'm not sure how long they're offering this (it doesn't say on the site).

Just thought i'd give fellow students the heads up on this in case you haven't heard about it yet. This is going to save me a ton on shipping textbooks this year!

Hoping for a quick answer [17 Jan 2009|02:00pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

Hey guys.
Quick question:
If I were to buy a refurbished Dell from Dell Outlet but through Tech Zone's pricing and purchasing link, would I still be afforded Tech Zone support should anything happen to the computer?

Halloween store? [25 Oct 2008|11:21am]

I know there's gotta be a Halloween store set up somewhere in town, but I have no idea where it is. The old Big Lots store by K-mart had one last year, but I went by a couple days ago, and it's vacant. Anyone know?

Illinois Shakespeare Festival [08 Jul 2008|02:00pm]

On selected evenings, student tickets are buy one, get one free. Purchase your tickets the night of the performance, and don't forget to show your ID! Student tickets, regularly priced at $16 on these evenings, come out to $8 apiece - less than some movie theatres!

The dates are as follows:

Tuesday July 29, 7:30 PM

Wednesday July 30, 7:30 PM

Tuesday August 5, 7:30 PM

All marketing aside, students (particularly non-theatre majors) are one group that's SORELY underrepresented out at the Festival, and we'd love to see more young faces in the crowd. I certainly understand that the cost can be pretty daunting. $16's a pretty good deal in the theatre world, but it's still a pretty hefty chunk of change to drop for something you don't know you'll love. Hopefully $8 is a more reasonable investment! And even if you're just not interested in Shakespeare, come out for Complete Works. It's hilarious, and you don't need to be any sort of Shakespeare buff to get the jokes.

For more information, visit thefestival.org.

The Gender Public Advocacy Coalition is pleased to announce the release of its 2008 GENIUS Survey in partnership with Ernst & Young.  GenderPAC works to ensure that classrooms, communities and workplaces are safe for everyone to learn, grow and succeed.

The Gender Equality National Index for Universities & Schools (GENIUS), GenderPAC’s most recent effort to end discrimination and promote awareness, encourages colleges and universities to recognize the benefits of a GenderSAFEtm campus - supportive equitable and protective for all students. Choosing to participate in GENUIS sends a strong public statement that bullying or discriminating based on the race, sex or gender of a student, faculty, or staff member is not tolerated at your institution

Fill out the survey at:  www.gpac.org/GENIUS2008survey, and make sure that we have data for as many schools as possible. Your voice will help us continue to work towards a safe and welcoming environment for every student.

While we greatly appreciate the interest taken in GENIUS by students, staff and faculty at academic institutions outside of the United States, at this time GENIUS is only able to track schools based in the United States.

Hi! I'm applying to the English graduate program for a specialization in children's literature. Does anybody know the range of scores ISU's English department accepts for the regular GRE?

Any help from special ed, or elementary ed majors is needed. [23 Apr 2008|03:19pm]

[ mood | angry ]

Okay, so I'm in C&I 208 right now.
I have to write that final paper for the end of class, and I can't figure it out.
I can't read the school report cards, and I can't figure out what the National Reading Pannel has to do with anything.
Anyone been in that class before who can help me make heads or tails of this shit.
Just to remind you, I'm blind. If I could see this shit, it'd be a lot easier.

[21 Apr 2008|09:01am]

Ok, advisor rant.
So as other bio majors already know, we have a new academic advisor.  I'm trying to work out how to get my study abroad credits transferred (I'm graduating in May), and she has basically sucked it up at getting back to me. And since I'm on the other side of the world, I can't exactly go knock on her door.

When I initially emailed her about my issue, she took over a week to get back to me and managed to completely misunderstand/ignore everything I had said and not answer any of my questions... So I sent her another email basically restating everything I had already explained and asked. It has been almost a month with no response. I asked her if I should be going through someone else incase it wasn't her job/she didn't know the answer. Nothing.

Thank god I contacted someone else. I ended up going through my study abroad advisor- it's not even his job to help me figure this stuff out, but he helped me immediately.
I understand that she's new and probably still getting accustomed to her job, but this is kind of ridiculous. Especially considering that I'm a senior who is going to be graduating in about a month.

Is anyone else having issues with her?

Posting for a friend - looking for roommate [09 Apr 2008|07:01pm]

This is from a friend looking for roommates. If you are seeking a roommate, don't comment here - rather, call or e-mail her. Thanks.

Hello everyone!

I am soliciting for a roommate for next year! I had two living arrangments potentially set up but both of them fell through. I'm worried I won't have a place to live for next year. If you or anyone you know needs a roommate please let me know! Thank you!

Graffiti update + a rant + Vaginas!! [01 Mar 2008|01:07pm]

More dumbasses. Four additional acts of vandalism were found Friday. Two in Colby 10 men's bathroom, one in Barton 3 women's bathroom, one in Dunn 4 men's bathroom. All similar schtick to the first one. Apparently, several people want days off school. There was also suspicious writing in Fell Hall. Since I don't have classes Fridays, I apparently didn't hear the rumors going round. I'm not sure the Daily Vidette is helping in this respect. Reporting on the facts? Fine. In fact, I'd be upset if they didn't. Reporting on the rumors? Gives them legitimacy. That's dumb.

My rant has some vulgarity, so I'll cut it.Collapse )

What are these rumors that are spreading, anyway? They seem to propagate more in the dorms than not. I'm off-campus, and so am uninformed.

Small plug: I'm in the Vagina Monologues! The last show is tonight at 7 pm in the Prairie Room of the Bone. We sold out last night (400 seats), plus 40 standing-only tickets, so if you want to come, come before 6:30! We were at standing only by 6:45. Amazing turnout and great show this year. :)

Voting at ISU? [05 Feb 2008|10:30am]

[ mood | curious ]

Since we're students at ISU, are we allowed to vote in the Bone, even if our voter registration cards specify a different poling place in town?
